Abraham 1–2; Genesis 12: Abraham Chose to Follow God

Have you ever done something hard because you knew it was right?

Abraham did something really hard. He lived in a place where people didn't believe in Heavenly Father. They believed in false gods. And Abraham said: No. I believe in the true God.

That was brave. And it cost him something.

God Made Abraham a Promise

God talked to Abraham. He told Abraham to leave his home and go to a new place.

That would be scary! But God made Abraham a special promise. He said:

"I will bless you. I will protect you. And through your family, all people on earth will be blessed."

That's called the Abrahamic Covenant. A covenant is a special promise between you and God.

Abraham Followed

Even though Abraham didn't know exactly where he was going, he followed God. He trusted the promise.

And because Abraham was faithful, God kept blessing him—and blessing everyone through him.

What Can We Learn?

  • We can choose to follow Heavenly Father even when it's hard
  • God makes promises to us too, especially in baptism and the temple
  • When we're faithful, our families are blessed too
